IN AN EMERGENCY: DIAL 911 FIRST!

Summer Reminder: HIKING WITH DOGS

Please avoid taking dogs hiking during hot weather. Each year, dogs perish on local hiking trails due to heat. They can't dissipate heat the way humans do; dogs sweat primarily through their paw pads, and walking on hot surfaces, including dirt hiking trails, inhibits their ability to cool down. We encourage you to talk with your veterinarian about hiking with your dog during warm or hot weather. In the mean time, here is a resource from the American Kennel Club providing information on dogs and heat: https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/health/do-dogs-sweat/
